Smoked or Fumed veneers are produced by exposing tannin rich hardwoods (such as European oak) to ammonia fumes in a sealed compartment. Variations in colour are caused through differing tannin content in the log itself hence you get a richer more natural effect than can be achieved through the use of a stain or dye.
Silvering is an innovative process developed by CHANNEL VENEERS to give wood an aged appearance, similar to that of say a Tudor Oak beam. It is not just a matter of colour, the surface is also glossier and smoother. It maintains the natural character and variations of the wood, thus avoiding the flattening effect caused by stains and dyes. This beautiful effect is usually produced in Oak logs, but it is also possible with Ash and Eucalyptus.
